This Week's Fun of the Week: Gliding Across a Silvery Lagoon Beneath a Glittering Urbane Skyline...

Before too much longer, I will probably do a Friday Commentary on bio-luminescent bays and the fact that all that doesn't glitter is tourist gold. But for today I want to point out an enchanting experience that is close to our house and something worth pursuing; nighttime kayaking.

I was introduced to this company by our friend and neighbor, Andy (a soon to be graduated marine biologist who works there part-time as a guide). The premise of the company is simple: glass bottomed kayaks, LED lights, and a remarkably tranquil lagoon nestled in the heart of a city which in itself nests 1.2 million people. To heck with rowing in New York's Central Park! I love the idea of softly paddling across a lagoon on an 80 degree evening, while the trade winds drift in from the Condado.

The tour is one hour long (according to their website, and comes with some commonsense disclaimers that sea animals don't appear on command and that one who kayaks is going to get wet. One of the more unexpected prohibitions is against insect repellent since it damages the kayak, but since mosquitoes have a very difficult time flying against the ever present trade winds, this prohibition shouldn't dissuade anyone from the experience.

Interested parties can click the image above or Puerto Rico Night Kayak Tour for more details, or to book their excursions. The cost is $49 per person for one hour according to the website, and the two-person kayaks can hold up to 400 pounds total. The guides will provide basic kayak instruction before embarking on the tour to make sure all participants are comfortable before departure.

Bon voyage! Make sure you tell them you read about it on ClaraVistaRevista.com!!!
