This Week's Wednesday Fun: Gliding through Glitter: Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Tours in Fajardo!!!

A line of adventurers head-out into the bay in Fajardo, Puerto Rico with guides from Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Tours.

You know you want to do it!

Despite my commentary at the beginning of this issue, I do encourage people who want to experience the natural wonders of bioluminescence to do so. So to this end, I looked at several tour operators on the mainland of Puerto Rico, and was very impressed with Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Tours in Fajardo, Puerto Rico for several reasons. First-- right on the header of their website is what I consider the most important aspect in planning your trip to see bioluminescence-- the lunar cycle!!! Planning a trip around visiting a bioluminescent bay during anytime other than a new or crescent moon is not worth either the effort nor the mosquito bites.

Next is the purely selfish reason that it is a reasonable drive from Casa Clara Vista (about 90 minutes) and you can take the northern or southern route for a difference of ten minutes. Since this is obviously an evening activity, if you are young and energetic, the northern route combined with a trip the the National Rain Forrest of "El Yunque" is doable. Although it will be tiring, it will maximize the effort of driving on Puerto Rico's very congested east coast, and is especially compelling for those guests here for only a short time.

For old, broken-down people like me (or for those who don't want 12 hours of prolonged, strenuous activity) the southern route with a stop for an early dinner and/or cocktails in Naguabo (one of my favorite places on the island) is a very nice alternative.

In either case, going to Fajardo means you can drive there one way and home another, which will give you the bragging rights of pretty much circumnavigating the Cayey Mountains.

According to their website, Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Tours have been in business for more than 20 years, and their rates start at $55.00. They are located at Carreterra Cabezas de San Juan, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, 00738, and their phone number is (787) 888-2887. You can also find them on Facebook.

As always, make sure you tell them you heard about their company and services at ClaraVistaRevista.com

Have fun!!!
